Kleinpeter Production Plant Field Trip

Last Friday, Bayou Cajun Homeschoolers had their first field trip that were for older kids.  We’ve started adding in field trips that are designed for our older children so that they can have the experiences.  This will be in addition to our monthly field trips/activities for everyone.

  They went to the Kleinpeter Dairy Production Plant in which they got to tour the inside of the facility.  The owner, Mr. Bud Kleinpeter,  took them on the tour. (I hope his name is correct because this is per my children..wink, wink.  I do know that his grandfather was the original owner of the plant.)  The moms said he did an incredible job for the children.

The children were able to see the ins and outs of what takes place in order to process the milk, to bottling, and then ready for the stores.  The plant had a lot of regulations that had to be followed such as no one under 6 years old, a limit of 50 people, and no cameras for pictures inside the plant. 

The children enjoyed getting to see the process of making the plastic gallon jugs.  They watched the hot plastic go down a tube into the mold, hot air puffed into it, and then BAM a container. (I wasn’t at the field trip because I stayed home with the little ones but my four older children went and told us all about it.)

These field trips make for a great opportunities for reports.  My oldest three had to write a report to tell daddy all about what they learned and enjoyed about this field trip. 

Kleinpeter also makes ice cream but that part of the facility was too small for the group to tour.  However, all of the kids were given a cup of ice cream to enjoy at the end of their trip.

Landry Poche Strawberry Farm Fieldtrip

Two weeks ago, the Bayou Cajun Homeschoolers went on a field trip to Landry-Poche Farms for strawberry picking. The cost was per gallon bucket that you bought for picking but you got to pick and eat as many strawberries while you were there free.

The farm had a nice place for us to picnic and play. It had picnic tables, a large sandbox, a seesaw made from a tree, a huge tire swing, and two little "horse" swings for the kids to play.

K-9/SRT Fieldtrip

Last Thursday, we went on an amazing fieldtrip to the K-9 Training and Special Response Team Facility.  First, we went inside the facility to hear about car seat safety and stranger danger. 

Afterwards, we walked across the seat to see some of the SWAT vehicles.

Finally, we got to see different demonstrations by the K-9 dogs.

Post Office Field Trip

Part of our homeschool group, Bayou Cajun Homeschoolers, went to the US Post Office Main Office for a tour to learn the ins and outs of the postal system.  Due to a limit per tour, we scheduled an additional field trip for more of our group to be able to attend. 

The main office is located across the street from the Federal Court House.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures inside the post office but we were allowed to take pictures  while we were outside in the back of the post office.

  Outside there is a mechanic shop where they work on the postal trucks.

These are the different types of carts that the postal workers use to load up the mail for delivery into the sorting cubicles for each postman and to their trucks.

   

This orange cart is full of mail for the hearing impaired.  They receive this mail free of charge.

Getting to watch a postman load up his truck and drive off.  While out for delivery, the postal workers are allowed a 10 minute break and a 30 minute lunch break.

 

The station manager was explaining to the children why the postal workers carry pepper spray with them.  They use it to protect themselves from dogs that may try to attack them.
