Baton Rouge Zoo Fieldtrip

_3150171

For March, we took a field trip to the Baton Rouge Zoo in which the children were going to be participating in one of their Ed-Zoo-Cational Programs.  We had so many participants that we had to schedule two back to back classes in order to accommodate everyone.

Here’s our group for the day:

(This was the first time that we were able to wear our new homeschool shirts.)

Candi took this picture since it was our mascot in our logo.

The children learned about the pyramid of life: Producers, Primary Consumers, Secondary Consumers, and Tertiary Consumers.  They were able to touch a chinchilla, a blue-tongue skink, a Madagascar cockroach, and see a screech owl.  They also had a touch and see table available for the kids after the program.

Candi and I are the ones who contribute and run the blog for the homeschool group.  So, the last picture has the two of us with all of our children together.

We had a gorgeous day for the zoo.  The weather was sunny with highs in the low 80s and no rain.  Just perfect!  I think everyone had a good time.

The next field trip will be one of our older kids field trip to Whole Foods which will also take place in March.  We try to incorporate an older field trip once a quarter with a field trip for everyone monthly.

LSU FETI 2012

Thursday, we had a fieldtrip to the LSU Fire and Emergency Training Institute (FETI). Photobucket
Before starting the fieldtrip, we took a group shot.

Then we went inside and Crew Chief Crain told the kids general information about fire safety: smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and safety ladders for upstairs.

Then we watched the following video to see examples of some of the training is done.

Then he had 3 recruits come in and do a 2 minute drill to see who could get their gear on the fastest.

Afterwards, the kids got to talk to the firemen in their gear and take pictures with them.

I wonder what Cade & Luke are talking about.

When we were finished talking with the firemen, we went outside to see the LSU firetruck.

We weren't able to see a burn or ride in the fire truck today like we did in 2010 (another post from 2010), but they gave us a ride on the trailer around the facilities.

A Park Play Day

Last Friday, we had a play day at one of our local parks, Forest Park.  I tried for about a month and a half to schedule a field trip for our  group but nothing worked out so we just had a park day.  It was a lovely January day in South Louisiana.  The temperature was in the lower 80s with clouds.  It was a great day for flip flops, short-sleeves, and shorts for some.

I thought I had taken more pictures but I didn’t.  That’s what happens when you enjoy the fellowship with the other moms and keeping your eyes on your children:)
