Overtones Music Studio Field Trip

Back in June, our group had 5 days of field trips to Overtones Music Studio in Denham Springs.  They were so gracious to provide teachers for each day in order to accommodate our large group. 

They had different stations set up with different instructors so that they children could get a taste of different musical instruments as well as different music programs that they offer.     

K-9 Police Field Trip

Back in May, we went to the K-9 Division of the East Baton Rouge Police Department.  They have set these up for us in the past for our group and have always done an excellent job for our children.

For this field trip, they had the SWAT team with their vehicles, the helicopter police who flew in and landed for all the children, and the K-9 team with their dogs for a demo.  Each department talked to the children about their jobs, what's their requirements and what they do.

Due to the size of our group, we schedule 2 different days out there.  Here's a slide show of some pics from that day.

Zachary Historic Village

In April, we went to the Zachary Historic Village for a hands-on learning experience on how life was back over 100 years ago.

One room schoolhouse

(Here they learned how the kids of different ages learned together in one room along with the different limit supplies that were available to them.)

(They learned about how wagons, shucking corn, grinding corn into grits and corn meal, etc.)

 

The Backyard

(The kids learned how they had to pump their own water for washing their clothes, hang them to dry on the clothesline, the outhouse, mowing the yard with a manual mower, etc.)

(They learned how the homes were much smaller yet could hold many people, high ceilings for ventilation, iceboxes instead of refrigerators, sharing a room, bathing in a tub with a water pitcher, portable potty in the room, etc.)
