Zachary Historic Village

In April, we went to the Zachary Historic Village for a hands-on learning experience on how life was back over 100 years ago.

One room schoolhouse

(Here they learned how the kids of different ages learned together in one room along with the different limit supplies that were available to them.)

The Barn

(They learned about how wagons, shucking corn, grinding corn into grits and corn meal, etc.)

The Backyard

(The kids learned how they had to pump their own water for washing their clothes, hang them to dry on the clothesline, the outhouse, mowing the yard with a manual mower, etc.)

The Farmhouse

(They learned how the homes were much smaller yet could hold many people, high ceilings for ventilation, iceboxes instead of refrigerators, sharing a room, bathing in a tub with a water pitcher, portable potty in the room, etc.)
