A Night of Catering

On Tuesday night, 7/24, Chef Jeremy Coco came to Candi’s house to cook a 4-course meal for the moms of the Bayou Cajun Homeschoolers. It was a great night of fun, fellowship and food!

Plaquemine Locks Fieldtrip

Last Friday, we had a fieldtrip to the Plaquemine Locks Historic Site.  They set up a special homeschool day just for our group which included 5 stations.  We broke up into 5 groups and rotated around the stations.

Our first station was the Iberville Museum which is located in the old City Hall building. PhotobucketPhotobucket
One room was filled with Mardi Gras costumes from the past couple of years. When we left the museum, one of the guides gave us Mardi Gras beads.

This old crib was really big. I thought it was probably used for older children. Melody wanted to try it out ;)

An old washing machine and an actual ice box...my Ma-Maw always called the refrigerator an ice box. Photobucket Photobucket
Station 2 was with Mr. Gene Seneca...a real life swamp person (but not on the show). He hunts alligators and makes things out of old cypress trees. He demonstrated how he carves art and make paddles out of them.

At Station 3, we learned about medical treatments during the Civil War. This station was really informative and was favorite of the day.

Micah was talking alot when the lady asked questions. I'm not sure they always went with what she was asking.

Station 4 was inside the old lock house which is now a museum. Thankfully it was in the a/c and they had water for everyone.

Unfortunately, the model is not working but they have recently raised enough money to fix it.

Station 5 had an officer dressed in uniform from the War of 1812 since it's Louisiana's Bicentennial. He shot his gun twice and showed us the things that a soldier would carry with him in his satchel.
